Alma 23-29 

Ils « n’apostasièrent jamais » 

Vous demandez-vous parfois si les gens peuvent véritablement changer ? Peut-être vous demandez-vous avec inquiétude si vous triompherez de mauvais choix que vous avez faits ou de mauvaises habitudes que vous avez prises, ou peut-être avez-vous des inquiétudes similaires pour des êtres chers. Si tel est le cas, l’histoire des Anti-Néphi-Léhis vous aidera. Ces gens sont des ennemis jurés des Néphites. Lorsqu’Ammon et ses frères décident de leur prêcher l’Évangile, les Néphites les « tournent en dérision ». Tuer les Lamanites paraît être une solution plus plausible que les convertir. (Voir Alma 26:23-25.) 

Mais pourtant, les Lamanites changent, grâce au pouvoir de conversion du Seigneur. Ce peuple, autrefois « endurci et féroce » (Alma 17:14), « se distingue par son zèle envers Dieu » (Alma 27:27). En fait, il « n’apostasie jamais » (Alma 23:6). 

Peut-être avez-vous de fausses traditions à abandonner ou « des armes de rébellion » à déposer (Alma 23:7). Ou bien peut-être devez-vous être un peu plus zélé dans votre témoignage et moins enclin à apostasier. Quels que soient les changements que vous ayez besoin d’opérer, Alma 23-29 vous permettra d’espérer que, grâce au pouvoir expiatoire de Jésus-Christ, le changement durable est possible.

Week 27 - From June 29 to July 5 

Alma 23–29 They “Never Did Fall Away” DONE

Do you sometimes wonder whether people can really change? Maybe you worry about whether you can overcome poor choices you’ve made or bad habits you’ve developed, or you may have similar worries about loved ones. If so, the story of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies can help you. These people were the sworn enemies of the Nephites. When Ammon and his brethren decided to preach the gospel to them, the Nephites “laughed [them] to scorn.” Killing the Lamanites seemed like a more plausible solution than converting them. (See Alma 26:23–25.) 

But the Lamanites did change —through the converting power of the Lord. Where once they were known as “a hardened and a ferocious people” (Alma 17:14), they became “distinguished for their zeal towards God” (Alma 27:27). In fact, they “never did fall away” (Alma 23:6).

Maybe you have false traditions to abandon or “weapons of … rebellion” to lay down (Alma 23:7). Or maybe you just need to be a little more zealous in your testimony and a little less prone to falling away. No matter what changes you need, Alma 23–29 can give you hope that, through the atoning power of Jesus Christ, long-lasting change is possible.
