« Les promesses … s’accompliront »
Nous vivons à une époque dangereuse et cela peut être perturbant. Même les disciples de Jésus « [ont été] troublés » quand ils l’ont entendu prophétiser les calamités qui surviendraient à notre époque (Doctrine et Alliances 45:34). Les premiers saints de Kirtland (Ohio, États-Unis) étaient aussi troublés par l’époque dangereuse à laquelle ils vivaient. Entre autres choses, il y avait « beaucoup de racontars et d’histoires absurdes » qui affaiblissaient le message de l’Évangile (Doctrine et Alliances 45, chapeau de section). Mais la réponse du Seigneur, aujourd’hui comme alors, est : « Ne soyez pas troublés » (verset 35). Certes, il y a de la méchanceté, mais il y a aussi des signes que Dieu hâte son œuvre. Oui, il a été prédit que des dangers précéderaient la Seconde Venue, et nous devrions en être conscients. Mais ce ne sont pas seulement des avertissements de danger ; ce sont aussi des signes que les promesses de Dieu sont sur le point de s’accomplir. Peut-être est-ce pour cette raison que Doctrine et Alliances 45, révélation qui décrit beaucoup de ces signes en détail, a été reçue « à la grande joie des saints »

We live in perilous times, and that can be troubling. Even Jesus’s disciples, when they heard Him prophesy of the calamities that would occur in our day, “were troubled” (Doctrine and Covenants 45:34). The early Saints in Kirtland, Ohio, were also troubled by the perilous times in which they lived. Among other things, there were “many false reports … and foolish stories” that were undermining the gospel message (Doctrine and Covenants 45, section heading). But the Lord’s response, then and now, is “be not troubled” (verse 35). Yes, there is wickedness, but there is also evidence that God is hastening His work. Yes, there are perils predicted to precede the Second Coming, and we should be aware of them. But these aren’t just warnings of danger; they are also signs that God’s promises are about to be fulfilled. Perhaps this is why Doctrine and Covenants 45—a revelation that describes many of these signs in detail—was received “to the joy of the Saints”
